A large statement piece. Ceramic vintage style phrenology head with crackled finish and fantastic detail. An oddity to complete every aspiring medico's desk. A ceramic phrenology head L.N Fowler Ludgate Circus London, Phrenology by L.N Fowler, entrance to Stationers Hall, the back with an inscription by Fowler.

Phrenology is the study of the human skull. It is based on the concept that the brain is the organ of the mind, and that certain brain areas have specific functions. An American leading phrenologist of his time, L.N. Fowler, gained considerable fame with his phrenology head, which has become a symbol of the discipline.

This bust is made from ceramic and hand-painted. It is antique so has aged with a crackle in the glazing.
